Department Overview
The Transportation Department is under the auspices of the Business Services Division. Home-to-school bus transportation is provided within their attendance zones to all elementary school children who live beyond the one-and-a-half-mile walking distance. Parents who wish to enroll their children in a school outside of their attendance zone must provide their own transportation. The district does not provide transportation for general education students in middle or high schools.
Transportation to an after school care program is not a guaranteed聽service聽and will be provided on a space availability basis for non-eligible students. The after聽school provider is required to submit a list of their enrolled students to Transportation. Please contact聽your after school program if you have questions and make sure your child is on their list. All eligible students will be scheduled to their designated bus stop until we’re notified their name is on the list for the after school program.
Every Wednesday is a Minimum Day: All students will be released at the Kindergarten time on Wednesdays.
: Student safety is our number one priority. There are many laws, regulations, federal guidelines and policies that govern the operation of a pupil transportation program.聽 Important information for families and school site personnel about our transportation service is provided for you in the Transportation Guide.
(EC 39831.3): The county superintendent of schools, the superintendent of a school district, or the owner or operator of a private school that provides transportation to or from a school or school activity shall prepare a transportation safety plan containing procedures for school personnel to follow to ensure the safe transport of pupils. The plan shall be revised as required on annual basis.

Getting Children to School Safely
Our Fleet and Your Health: Being good stewards of the environment ranks right up there with student safety when it comes to getting elementary school students to and from school. Our skilled bus drivers operate a fleet of 30 school buses that transport up to 1500 elementary students to school each day. The health of our students, community and region is the driving force behind our ongoing successful efforts to control harmful emissions from school buses. We successfully partnered with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and Hybrid Voucher Incentive Project in 2018 for grant funding to improve our fleet with eight new zero-emissions electric school buses. Our remaining school bus fleet meets stringent federal air quality regulations for gasoline-powered buses, a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus for more efficient and cleaner burning engines and retrofitted our diesel buses with particulate traps that filter harmful emissions.
